JAS DT - Challenge #34: New Year, New Challenge

Welcome back, folks! I'm sorry the Christmas season did not pan out how I intended, but I had some problems with my back. As some of you know I have a lot of back problems and do get sidelined with it.

So, here we go into a new year!! I have made a few resolutions this year, two of which apply to my crafting. My two are 1) Craft more often and 2) Organize my scrap room! I think both of those are on most of our lists!!!

For this challenge over at Just A Scrappin', we are getting to try something new. Make a card, LO or project using a new technique or style of card that you have not done before. For example: Sewing, stamping, quilling, paper folding, etc.

Size: 5 X 5

Because I had some cuts left over from Christmas, I decided to do another Christmas card. I had two things on this card that were new to me. I have never made an easel card before (I know, SHOCKING) and I have not used hemp. It was really super simple to make the easel card, I will have more of these in my future!

Teddy Bear Parade Cricut Cartridge (Cut @ 4.25")
Cardstock: Bear (Core'dinations); Card Base (Colorbok - Earthtone Cool); Inside Mat (Certainly Celery - Stampin' Up)
Patterned Paper: My Minds Eye - Vintage Christmas 6 X 6 Stack
Dies: My Creative Time (Vintage Stitched Label Dies - Banner; Chocolate Greetings - Banner)
Sentiment: Tiny Tidings - Cardz TV Stamps; Ink: Lady Bug Memento Ink
Other: Hemp - Stampin' Up; Button - Misc

Card Measurements
Cut a piece of cardstock to 10" X 5". Score card at 5" and 7.5" (Solid dark green)
Cut a piece of cardstock 5" X 5". (Solid dark green)
On the lower section of the front of the card, apply adhesive to the bottom 2.5" only. This will be where you will attach the 5" X 5" piece of cardstock. Line the 5" X 5" piece of cardstock up to the front and adhere. (Solid dark green)
Layer as you normally would. For my card I used patterned paper at 4.875 X 4.875

For the inside "stopper".
Cut a piece of cardstock at 1.125" X 4.875. On my card this is the solid dark green.
Layer a piece of cardstock 1" X 4.75. (Patterned Paper on my card)
Use pop dots to give the front of the easel card something to stop on.

I hope you enjoyed my card this week. I really enjoyed putting it together. I do have a few tips for you along with this card.

On the Teddy Bear Parade cartridge, you really do not need to cut out the black layer of the bear. I simply delete the bear, cut out the nose. Then I use my 1/2" circle punch to use for the backs on the eyes. This will help save you on black paper.

The other tip I have for you is for when you are using My Creative Time Dies. You really can mix and match so many of these. That is how I used the banner from Vintage Label Dies and the banner die from the new Chocolate Greetings. It gave a really nice layered effect. I was able to pick up some great deals on stamps and dies during the last sale. I am so in LOVE with these products.

I used to use My Pink Stamper as my go to stamps, and when she retired I was really nervous. But, I am so happy to say I have found a couple new companies, My Creative Time and Cardz TV that have become my go to stamps and dies!

Well, sorry I was a little long winded! I have missed posting and sharing my crafts with you guys. It stinks when your mind is ready to go, but the body is not willing or able.

Don't forget to stop by Just A Scrappin' to see what the other design team members are up to and to post a link to your own newly created project! Can't wait to see what you try for a new technique!!

  6. I comment when I appreciate a post on a blog or I have something to contribute to the conversation.
It's a result of the sincerness communicated in the article I browsed. And on this post "JAS DT - Challenge #34: New Year, New Challenge". I was excited enough to post a comment :-) I actually do have a couple of questions for you if you do not mind. Is it just me or does it look as if like a few of the remarks look as if they are written by brain dead visitors? :-P And, if you are posting at additional social sites, I would like to follow everything new you have to post. Would you list all of all your shared sites like your twitter feed, Facebook page or linkedin profile?

Feel free to visit my blog post - sky tv free channels

    1. I appreciate your outlook. I'm the same, I really like to comment when a blog "strikes" me. I also try to be sincere in all my postings. I love doing my blog with the intention it will inspire somebody with a new idea or to try something new! I do start all my blog postings as though I'm talking to an old friend.

I'm not sure what you mean about brain dead visitors. On this post it was all my JAS DT sisters. I do get some random comments that I believe are computer generated. You have to put that box where you have to type the word to stop it and I find it VERY irritating when I have to do that, so I don't want to do that on my blog.

I do not post on any other additional sites. If you would like to follow what I post, sign up to follow by Email, located on the right hand sign of my blog. I have some videos from the past and my intention is to start making videos again once my life settles down a little.

Thank you so much for the comment!! It really makes my day to know someone is watching. I hope you will sign up to become a follower :)

      Thanks again,
      The crazy cat lady :)
