Free Files for Silhouette Cameo

Hey all you crafty cats out there! Today I would like to share with you a few places I go to get FREE files to cut on my Silhouette Cameo. If you have a machine that has the ability to cut SVG files, you could get these files also!!

1. SVGCuts has some super cute free images you can download. Another great thing about this sight is when they release a new kit, you can usually get it free with a purchase of $10.

2. Miss Kate's Cuttables has a daily image that is free also. You have to download this image every day because once the day is over, it moves to the $0.50 section. She has some really super cute images in her store. Another thing I really like about her store is you can get something called a credit voucher. There are different options you can get, but they save you money. For example, you can get $25 to spend for only $17.49.

3. PPBN (or Paper Piecing by Nikki) Again, this changes daily, as the name implies :), so it is important to download the image the day you get it. Here you will also find some really cute images in her regular store.

4. Pretty Paper Pretty Ribbonshas something called the "Friday Freebie". Every Friday you can get something different for free. One week I have gotten a cutting file and another week I got a free digital paper. More cute images in this store too guys!

5. Jessica Sprague - This site does not offer free cut files that I have seen, but you can get great deals on Wednesday. Every Wednesday they have "One Buck Wednesday". There is a special section under the digital shoppe that takes you to this option. In this section you will find some items for $1, $1.50 or maybe even $2 depending on the collections being offered. You never know what you are going to find, so it's kind of like Forrests' box of chocolates!! I have gotten so many digital kits at low prices to import the digital papers into my Silhouette Designers Edition Software. You can also import the PNG files you find in the element kits to cut your own embellishments from the collection. This is great for anyone, but super great for all the Project Lifers out there!

The last deals that I would like to tell you about only applies to my fellow Silhouette users. Go to the Silhouette Online Store and there are a few things you will want to check out. The first thing I like to check out, the free shape they give away every week. If I am remembering correctly, this changes every Tuesday. There is another great thing about Tuesday's in the SOS, this is when they introduce their weekly clearance shapes for the week. I know I ALWAYS find something in the clearance section! Something else I have stumbled onto is the Bundles they offer. From what I have seen, these have really no specific time or day when they are published. You get a bundle for shapes for a reduced rate. I usually get them because you can generally get 4 shapes (or groups, like arrows or chevrons for example) for only $2.79. When each shape is usually $0.99, that is a savings! You never know what you might need. I always like to be prepared for a rainy day :) Also, everyday throughout the day they are adding in new images. You need to go the the SOS and click on the New Designs heading at the top of the page. There are so many super duper cute ones!

I would also like to let you in on an observation I have made. For me, I look in the SOS ALOT!! One thing I have noticed, specifically with Miss Kate's Cuttables, as she is one of my favorite designers, is I think you get a better buy at her store.

For example. You can buy one of her images in the SOS and have it ready to go. Or you can go to her store for the same price, sometimes lower, or sometimes bundled with other shapes and get it there. When you purchase it from her you not only get the SVG (cut file), but you also get the PNG file, which you can use to do print and cut on the SDS. To me that makes more sense. Especially since she has introduced her credit vouchers. I do have the largest subscription you can have to the SOS, which is $150 to spend for only $16/month. I just like the idea of spending $0.99 and getting two files I can use instead of one. You can also make print and cut files from the files you purchase in the SOS store. You simply fill the shapes with color and layer them into the shape. I really like the PNG files that come with all this already done for the same price, or sometimes cheaper!

WOW! Are my fingers tired :) I just wanted to share with you where I am getting my files from. I have heard these files will work with the Sizzix E Clips and the eCraft by Craftwell. I have actually heard conflicting information on the eCraft, so anyone that has one and would like to comment below would be super great! According to the online Facts, it does say you can cut SVG files. Since I don't have one, I can't commit to anything more than I can read online.

This is something that really makes me love my Silhouette even more. I have between 200 to 250 Cricut cartridges, but every image/cartridge I have, I paid for. It is so nice to be able to get something for free that will provide me with a lot of enjoyment. I download every free image I can that I will conceivably use. I do back them up on a removable hard drive. It is actually time to do it again!

So, I hope this helps some of my fellow crafters out there. Again, if you are on the fence about a Silhouette, please download the software and try it out. That and all the freebies I can cut with it really made up my mind and I haven't looked back! I still have my Cricut and would never sell the machines or cartridges. The amount of money I have in that, which I don't want to think about is a lot! I'm sure I will eventually go back and forth between the machines as many people do. Right now I am just in the crush phase with my Silhouette. You know the phase where nobody can do any wrong :)

If you have any questions, please let me know. My email address is NermalJuly14@gmail.com. Please also feel free to contact me via the comment section below. Also, if you have any video or requests, please let me know. I really enjoy being a part of the crafting community we are in.

I really hope you enjoyed the projects I shared today. I had a lot of fun making them. As most of you know, I have mentioned in my videos, I was recently on bed rest. You think that sounds like a great thing until you are doing it. I spent a lot of time on You Tube watching videos and one channel caught my attention. I found Melody Lane and LOVED her videos. Through the process of keep myself sane by watching videos something wonderful happend.......I got my craft mojo back!!! I don't know where it went, but I came out of the gates running when I was able to get back in my craft room. Melody giving me my mojo and inspiring me meant so much. I wanted to send her a package of some goodies, along with a few things I created to show her my appreciation. Apparently, I made her cry, which I feel HORRIBLE about. However, they were happy tears, so I think that is a good thing :)

Melody will have on her channel a video showing an unpacking of the box. I will post a link here so you can see the finished projects. I really thought I took pictures, but for some reason, they are not there!

I will be having more projects and videos this week. To stay up to date, don't forget to subscribe to my blog and You Tube channel. If you have the time, I love to read comments and am super happy to answer any questions!

Another Michael's Shopping Haul

Hello crafty peeps!! How are you all doing out there? It was super humid today in the beautiful state of Maine. I was all excited to go in the scrap room and craft, but it was TOO hot! I did work on a project in my room in front of the cool air. I will get a video filmed hopefully tomorrow and uploaded later in the week. It will actually be a project share/tutorial.

On to our good stuff, our Michael's Haul!! I was so super excited to get another trip to M's. If you are counting, that is two in one week! Obviously, I was counting.

The trip to Yale was good. We learned some more information and got one-on-one time with admissions officers from Ivy League schools. It really hit me how many applications are in my future. So, on to something that is more happy.....here's the video of the haul:

In my video, as most of mine do, I reference My Creative Time stamps and dies. You can get yours here.

Here are a couple pics from our Yale trip:

What you are looking at
1) This is a quote in the Beinecke Plaza
2) Our Amtrak train in Boston's South Station (which is a wild experience by the way)
3) There is a statue on Yale's campus they feel is lucky, so they had the kids rub his left foot. I forget the name!
4) Our wonderful hotel room

So, there is a little update of what I've been up to. The package that I sent to a fellow You-Tuber, which I can now tell you was Melody Lane, made it there. She is going to have a video in the next couple days showing what I sent her in the package. I'm so super excited to see her reaction! When she posts her video I will make sure to post a link on my blog.

Thank you so much for stopping by! If you haven't been over to You Tube, click on the video above and check out my other videos.

Happy crafting :)

Silhouette Project Share

Hey guys! I was playing around in Silhouette Studio yesterday and decided to make a few things.

The first thing I made was this adorable bat.

I was thinking, they have Christmas in July, so would it be Halloween in June?!?! Don't know how that all works out, but it ended up with me getting out the googly eyes and that is never bad!!

Supplies
Black Core'dinations cardstock
Silhouette bat tootsie treat box - Design ID #21492
Googly eyes
American Crafts twine in orange
White paint pen

I really love how he came out. I put his little mouth and eyes on just a little wonky. I didn't actually put any candy in him since he is just going to keep me company in my scrap room. I can't look at that face and not smile!

The second project I worked on completes the RAK I am sending out to a fellow You-Tuber.

Supplies
Core'dinations cardstock
Patterned Paper: Recollections
Stampin' Up Large Oval and Scallop Oval Punches
Cardz TV Stamps
Memento Tuxedo Black Ink
Silhouette Special Delivery Bear - Design ID #41117

When I first cut the bear, I didn't realize how big he was. He came out about 8 X 8! It was good because it gave me a chance to figure out the layering before I did it on my project. My best piece of advice would be to ungroup everything in this file, move the base image and then size it based on that. Regroup all the pieces and start cutting. In the SDS, I always fill color for my pieces, so when I go to cut, I know what color paper I need for a certain image. My other piece of advice on this would be to use a similar color to the bear in cutting the base image that you layer on. I wish I would have used the same brown. I just trimmed up a little bit if you could see the white at all.

As you can see I am still having a lot of fun with my Cameo. I love that while it is cutting is sounds like music. It sounds so happy to be cutting :)

Thanks for stopping by today! Happy Crafting :)

As I get better at the Silhouette, I am hoping to do some videos from start to finish. Right now it takes me awhile to get going with it. But, I LOVE this machine and can not believe how INSANE I was to not get it sooner! Here is a link to HSN to the deal I got. I also used a $25.00 coupon I found for HSN. The great thing about using HSN is you can pay for it over 4 months. If you think you might be interested, download the free software for Silhouette and play! That is one of the things that really convinced me to get it.....that and all the enablers on You Tube :)

They also have great deals on subscriptions. I got mine on sale (of course!), so for $16.00 a month I get $150.00 to spend in the Silhouette Online Store. Great Deal!!!

Cameo woes - I am VICTORIOUS!!!

Welcome back all you crafty cats! I wanted to update you on my Cameo woes.....I made a card!

I made a card for a dear family friend who LOVES flamingos! He really, really loved the card :) I really enjoyed making this on the Cameo. It made it nice to be able to move what I wanted onto the mat and just stick the pieces on the side. I ordered myself the 12 X 24 mat so I will be able to cut all the layers out at once. For my first time cutting out a project it was good to use the regular 12 X 12 mat to get used to it. Everything cut out beautifully and I was super impressed with how great it cut out the intricate legs of my flamingos.

The second picture you see is using the print and cut feature. I was pretty happy with how it came out. On a few things I will have to do touch ups with my scissors, but I think it just means me tweaking the placement of my mat when it goes into the Cameo.

I printed out another set of these bears and colored them using my Bic Mark It markers. I think it came out super adorable! I will share this once I get it assembled into a card.

I bought the image for this bear in the Silhouette Store, #41117. I did not use this for the print and cut. When you purchase this, all you get is the cut file. I then went to Designs on Cloud 9 (who is the designer) to see if they had the digi file, and they did! So, I bought the digital stamp by the same name and was able to print, color it in and then cut it! It really was so super simple.

I know there are a lot of die hard Cricut crafters out there and I used to be one of them. I could not ever imagine going to another machine/company. I am really happy I did. Each company/machine has their pros and cons. It really is the best of both worlds to be able to use either!

My advice for someone that may be considering getting the Silhouette and you are on the fence, download the software. That really helped me make my decision. You will be able to see all the really cool things you can do with the machine. Once you get the designer software, it really opens up so much more you can do! You can do a lot with the just the basic software as well. I wanted to be able to cut svg files with my Cameo.

Supplies
Summer Holiday SVG Kit
MCT Stamped Image: Birthday Buddies
Patterned Paper: K&Co - Citronella
Cardstock: Stampin' Up: Baja Breeze, Basic Black, Certainly Celery, Melon Mambo, Peach Parfait, Pear Pizzazz, Pretty In Pink, Whisper White, Soft Suede
Rhinestones, Button - Stash

Thank you so much for stopping by today! I have a few things coming in tomorrow and am hopeful to get a video out to you at the first of the week. This is the last week of school for my son. Tomorrow is the last full day with the remainder of the week being half days with finals.

Cameo Woes

Hello all my crafty cats out there! So, I decided earlier this week I was going to have a Silhouette Cameo day. I had all these wonderful visions of what I would cut. I was going to be so productive! Do you guys do that? You can see all the crafting in your mind and you might as well count it as done??

Well, as you can tell by the heading, it didn't really go that way. It was so hot here during the day it was ridiculous. I worked on getting my DVR back-log down. Then I decided about 8 o'clock that it was cool enough. So, I had a great time setting it up. Thinking again about all the cute things I was going to cut.....again, how wrong I was.

First, my Cameo for some reason would not detect my printer registration marks. The machine told me I had to manually do this, then the machine doesn't want to move the blade. I finally get it to see the printer registration marks after about my 10th time coaxing (begging) the machine to find them. So it cuts. Only problem is it doesn't cut deep enough. So, I decide to amp up the blade. Well.....I got a little too amped because it cut through my paper AND my mat in a couple locations....UGH!!

Unfortunately, where I live, we only have Jo-Ann's and A.C. Moore. Neither of them carry stuff for the Cameo. So I sauntered into my room and ordered another mat. So now I can cut really small things in the corner of my mat that I didn't cut out. I actually heard a rumor (via You Tube, of course) that you can use Cricut mats in the Silhouette?!?!?! Is this true??? Has anyone out there tried this??

So, I am not giving up. I am a stubborn, very stubborn and determined person. The score right now may be Silhouette - 1; Bridget - 0, but I will prevail! I will not let machinery beat me!!!

Once my new mat comes in, I am hopeful to get some pictures up. I really love the software and love the ability to cut basically anything. I will prevail!!!

Thank you for listening to my tirade :)
